ABOUT THE BLOG
What is it Really like to Live with Chronic Illness?
Narratives are powerful. A lot of people like to tell me I can't possibly be sick because I look so healthy and do a lot of stuff. A lot of people also like to tell me I should stay at home and do nothing precisely because I am so sick. I think both of these notions are harmful misconceptions about people living with chronic illnesses - instead of making patients feel better, such statements often end up disempowering them. I would like to present a better, more hopeful narrative about living with chronic illness so here is my story in my own words.
My name is Charis and I'm a twenty-something from Singapore. On the surface, I may look normal but I suffer from fibromyalgia, a condition that causes widespread pain and fatigue. Despite my condition, I have trekked up to Annapurna Base Camp, gone sky-diving, traveled the world and I'm looking forward to the many adventures to come!
Life with chronic illness is hard, but it is also filled with immense beauty, adventure, and joy. Through this blog, I hope to debunk some myths and misconceptions people have about living with chronic illnesses as well as chronicle my own journey in living with fibromyalgia. In addition, I am passionate about sharing my experience with ethical living and conscious consumerism, which I believe can co-exist with a life of illness. By writing about these topics, I hope I can inspire you to live more sustainably.
I hope you have a pleasant stay on this blog and that you take away something positive from it!
